BAIPV4NZEC
Building Adaptively Integrated Photovoltaic for Net-Zero Energy Condition — a standardized, retrofit-ready façade-mounted PV system that adapts to a building’s actual orientation, paired with an orientation-agnostic power generation estimator.
What We Do
Façade-Mounted BAIPV Panels
Vertically-oriented PV panels structurally designed and fixed to the existing façade of buildings in tropical regions such as Chennai — adapting to the building’s actual orientation rather than requiring a fixed, optimal one.
Standardized Retrofit Fixing Detail
A standardized, manufacturable fixing detail — customizable and engineered per building, and structurally tested for installation on existing façades post-construction, with no structural intervention on the host building.
Orientation-Adaptive Power Estimation
A power estimation platform that predicts output at any building azimuth, using empirically calibrated, Chennai-tropical PV performance data.
Origin
BAIPV4NZEC grew out of doctoral research at IIT Madras — Ar. Suresh Babu Karuppannan’s PhD on wall-mount BAIPV panels for nearly net-zero energy building environments in tropical climatic conditions, guided by Prof. B. N. Rao and Prof. Srinivas Reddy of the Department of Civil Engineering, IIT Madras. That research finding was later patented and is now being offered as a solution for greener buildings of the future.
Early conversations are underway with prospective institutional partners, including EV charging stations at IIT Madras, as part of the campus green-energy initiative. These engagements are currently in discussion and unconfirmed.
